Driftwood Sub-Zero Service · Bainbridge Island

About the shop

A one-brand shop on a one-ferry island

Driftwood is an independent Sub-Zero refrigeration service working Bainbridge Island and nowhere else. That is a small market and a narrow speciality on purpose — it is what makes the diagnosis fast and the right part likely to already be on the van.

Why the schedule matters more here

Every mainland trade that quotes Bainbridge Island is quoting a crossing. That is why so many calls out here end up as “sometime next week” — one visit does not pay for the boat, so the job waits until three of them do.

Working the island exclusively removes that arithmetic. The van is here for the day either way, so a single warm refrigerator in Port Madison is a job rather than an inconvenience, and the run gets planned by district instead of by whatever came in last.

What we actually work on

Built-in and integrated Sub-Zero refrigeration — 600 and 700 series cabinets, integrated columns, undercounter drawers, clear-ice makers and dual-zone wine storage. Sealed-system diagnostics, evaporator and defrost faults, control boards, gaskets and water systems.

What we do not do is everything else. No ranges, no dishwashers, no laundry. A shop that claims all of it is spending its diagnostic time reading manuals in your kitchen.

How we work

Four rules, and we do not bend them

  • Diagnose before quoting

Nothing is priced from a phone description. A number arrives after the readings do, and it arrives in writing.

  • Repair before replacing

A twenty-year cabinet with a dead fan is a fan job. We will say plainly when a unit is genuinely finished, and that is not often.

  • One trade, one island

No franchise, no dispatch centre, no rotating subcontractors. The person on the phone is the person in your kitchen.

  • Leave the kitchen as found

Panels off on blankets, floors protected, cabinetry unmarked. A repair should be invisible once the van has gone.

And this is the shape of a visit

  1. Tell us what it is doing

The model number off the frame inside the fresh-food door, and a plain description of the behaviour. That combination usually narrows the fault before anyone leaves the shop.

  2. We plan the crossing

Island calls are batched by district and booked against the sailing schedule. You get a two-hour window, not a vague day-long promise.

  3. A real diagnostic

Temperatures logged over a full cycle, the sealed system read under gauges, defrost circuit and controls tested. You get the cause, not a guess dressed up as one.

  4. Priced, then repaired

A firm number for parts and labour before a single screw comes out. Nothing is ordered or opened until you say go ahead.

  5. Run back down to spec

We do not leave on a promise. The unit is brought back to temperature while we are there and the readings are shown to you before the van moves.
